Diminishing Jim is an original rock band from Connecticut. The band has a truly unique sound, incorporating elements of rock, pop, groove rock, and hard rock. The band's songs are catchy with three part harmonies, yet raw and energetic. They have been compared to bands including Foo Fighters, Vertical Horizon, Jimmy Eat World and The Cars.
The band is Ted Petrie (guitar/vocals), Jim Hoefelt (bass/vocals), Chris Giard (guitar/vocals), and Brendan Johnston (drums). All the band members have been playing in the local CT music scene for years in bands including Karmic Justice, 3-Eyed Fish, and Milo.
Diminishing Jim was formed as a trio in late 2004. The line up included Ted Petrie, Jim Hoefelt, and Brendan Johnston. In early 2005, the band added second guitar player/singer Bill Stevens. In 2008, Bill Stevens left the band and was replaced by Chris Giard.
The band has played numerous gigs at places such as the at the legendary Toad’s Place in New Haven as well as other bars, clubs, and benefit shows throughout CT. The band's songs have been played on local terrestial radio, internet radio and podcasts. Diminishing Jim was the featured band on Hartford CT's 106.9 WCCC Homegrown Show the week of January 30, 2010.
The band has recorded one CD (Work In Progress, 2006) and is currently working on recording new material. At LIVE performances, the band will mix in unique covers that stand out in sets, such as Voices Carry by ‘Till Tuesday, Shock the Monkey by Peter Gabriel and Love Is A Battlefield by Pat Bennetar. In early 2010, Diminishing Jim produced a music video for their song Verse Chorus Verse which can be seen here on YouTube.
